How to make your text sound more alive

Add specifics, vary your rhythm, cut stock phrases and say what you really think. That makes a text easier to read, and it has nothing to do with detectors.

Here are six techniques that work for an AI draft and for your own writing alike.

Add concrete detail

Replace "many people" with "my neighbour Marina" and "significant growth" with "from 40 to 65 orders a month". Names, numbers, places and events make a text checkable and memorable. Only use details that are true: an invented number is worse than a vague word.

Vary the rhythm

Alternate short and long sentences. A short one underlines a point. A long one carries a line of thought. If three sentences in a row are the same length, rewrite one of them.

The same goes for paragraphs. If every paragraph has four sentences and the same shape, merge two of them or split one. Our analysis measures exactly this variation in sentence and paragraph length, and uniform text is what it flags first.

Cut the stock phrases

"It is worth noting that" can usually just go. "Plays a crucial role" becomes "matters a lot". "In today's world" becomes "today". Read the sentence without the phrase: if the meaning survives, the phrase was filler.

The same applies to connectors. A "moreover" or "furthermore" in nearly every sentence is a habit worth breaking: often a full stop does the job better.

Bring back your voice

Say what you think, where you doubt, what surprised you. A single "I am not sure" or "this bothered me" brings a paragraph to life better than a dozen synonyms.

Read it aloud

Where you stumble or start saying it differently, the text needs work. Needless connectors ("moreover", "thus") stand out the moment you read aloud.

Do not chase "beating the detector"

The point of editing is a better text for the reader. Tuning it to please a program is pointless: detectors make mistakes, and nobody can guarantee a text is "indistinguishable". A lower score after editing means the text became less uniform, nothing more. We write about the limits in why modern AI detectors get it wrong.

A small before and after

Example, made up for illustration. Before: "It is worth noting that regular exercise plays a crucial role in overall health." After: "I started walking to work in March. By June I stopped feeling tired at four in the afternoon." The second version is shorter, has a date, and sounds like one person.

What to do next

Paste the text into the checker: places marked orange and yellow show what to reread first. Click a place and the editor opens there with a suggestion for what to use instead.
